RETRO SHOCK

About Retro Shock:

It's crazy – we've actually been at this for 5 issues…oh, how time flies. In fact, for any of you long lime subscribers, you likely remember back when we started this series "out of frustration". What Frustration? We, as working DJs, were sick of crappy 80's remixes that constantly ruined perfectly good tracks by either adding too much or going off on some sort of "artsy" tangent. Well, in the words of Eric B. we thought "this is how it should be done…" and went to work on what was to become Retro Shock Vol. 1, our first satellite series to Culture Shock, the "Alternative" remix service.

So where are we now? 4 issues in, we have attacked songs that a)no one has done or b) other services are too afraid/lazy to do or c) others have done in the past, but have gotten wrong. Well, we had enough, and "…weren't going to take it anymore!"

ROCK SHOCK

About Rock Shock:

So – Where do we put this series? For any of you paying attention, we’ve been throwing this idea around for years – in fact, while we were on our “Hiatus”, we had the mention of ‘Rock Shock” on our website, but it was still an just an idea, a twinkle in our collective remix consciousness. So what happened? To put it simply, we got off our asses and did some great work.

This series is the most difficult of all of our efforts. Why? Well, the reasons are numerous, but it all comes down to approach. Unlike half of the Acid/Ableton-based “Remixes” being put out on the web by bedroom DJs, our goal was to attempt to reconstruct the songs wherever possible.  (i.e. not “Techno”, “House” or “Electro” remixes – that’s saved for our Y2K series – ed.) Were we successful? Based on the overwhelming success of this eries, we'd have to say yea.

80's VS Y2K

About 80's vs Y2K:

The 80's remixed for a new generation.

"Times are changing back!!'  - (Tim Robbins as Bob Roberts in the movie "Bob Roberts")

There's a saying that what's old is new. Well, there have been a slew of "80's remixes" coming out over the years that led us to a few decisions:

1) Sort out the good from the bad

2) Make them more DJ friendly by editing, giving intro's, outros, etc.

3) When applicable, re-introduce parts from the original version that the original remixer decided to omit

4) Create some of our own versions that update these songs

5) Compile them for convenience

So, what makes this series different from our Retro Shock series? These versions are intentionally modernized for the DJs out there that like to play versions that might blend in easier in a modern/current dance set and for a younger audience. Also, we use this as a way to showcase a different side of our remixing abilities. So if you want versions that stay truer to the original, use Retro Shock. If you want the 80's for a new generation, use this series.
